It is good to celebrate at the time of his departing one of the great American musical educators Ellis Marsalis. The family were not able to give him a huge musical New Orleans funeral. Undoubtedly his impact and influence will continue through them and through his students for generations. He was an encourager and influencer par excellence. He will be speaking to us for many years to come through his numerous albums and talented sons.
The Marsalis Family did perform with their father, Ellis in a concert that marked his retirement from the school’s jazz department at the beginning of this millennium.
